Though we’ve said it several times, it’s worth repeating: 1 in 5 Americans have dyslexia.

That’s especially startling in the classroom.

Among your 25 students, as many as 5 could be struggling.

Colt the Courageous is a dose of much-needed hope and encouragement for those who are.

And for those who aren’t? It’s necessary reading for them, too as Colt teaches us all to respect the invisible battles we all fight.

Signs of Dyslexia

Difficulty reading or avoiding it altogether aren’t the only signs a student might be dyslexic. Many believe dyslexia is just letter reversals, but it is much more than that. Here are other signs to watch for:

  • Difficulty blending sounds / sounding out words
  • Pronunciation difficulty
  • Inconsistent spelling of the same word
  • Avoidance of written tasks
  • Repeating memorized data
  • Noticeable disparity between math and art scores and reading scores

Signs vary based upon age, and more signs can be found here.

Insightful. Profound. Wonderfully written for all ages.

I am excited to recommend this book! What a wonderful resource to educators, as well as parents and children. This book helps to explain dyslexia for anyone wanting to understand or for any family who may be walking through similar trials. I have spent my life teaching and unlocking ways to help dyslexic students. I only wish I had this book back then to set the foundation for my work with them. What an incredible resource that I can’t wait to have amongst my collection. Journey along with Colt the Courageous to learn compassion and insight for someone who may not learn just like you.
